Lighthouse Developments was founded almost 20 years ago in New Zealand to facilitate building a pedestal, revolving house. This design has appropriately been named the lighthouse. It is a kinetic house, at the same an earthquake resistant structure, that turns around effortlessly, allowing you to make the most out of the weather conditions and 360 degree views.
It all started with “an interesting idea” many years ago. From that interesting idea to create a new type of house, the principals of Lighthouse Development took the initiative to conduct a comprehensive overseas feasibility study and research into standards, specifications and designs, and adapted the available information to the NZ Building Code. The first Lighthouse prototype was completed in July 2000 giving people the opportunity to visit and experience the many benefits it has over a conventional fixed house. Mounted on a pedestal, the steel frame structure has an electric motor that can turn the house with the push of a button. You can also automatically program it to rotate on its own.
There are many great benefits to living in a kinetic house that is capable of rotation with an earthquake resistant structure design. The controls allow you to turn your house so you can have your desired view. You can also follow the sun and make the most of the solar heat. There are sensors that can detect an approaching storm, so you’ll be able to turn the house for safety. One of the best features of the house is that it is burglar-proof. The sliding doors cannot be forced open, and any open doors can be programmed to close when someone approaches.
The Lighthouse mandate is to manufacture and sell earthquake resistant structures & rotating houses for the residential house industry and commercial development industry in controlled environments, with the structural components shipped by containers, erected on site, with interiors finished according to how a client has chosen based on the client’s desire and budget. The Lighthouse flexible design provides the client with complete freedom in interior design since there are no interior structural walls needed.
